Seventeen new cafés with our curators' flag on them. Indian microlot roasters, a Latin bakery in Jumeirah, coffee among classic cars, ranked by early ratings.
The most interesting food story in Dubai right now might be happening over coffee. Al Quoz alone has produced three flagged newcomers: SUBKO roasts Indian microlots and makes its own bean-to-bar chocolate, OF THE EARTH plates organic farm-to-table lunches in a warehouse, and The Mark pours specialty cups surrounded by somebody's genuinely impressive classic car collection.
Saddle's new Al Barsha room tops the early ratings at 4.8 across 400-plus reviews, with Junglebowls in DIFC just behind on 4.9, Japanese-leaning bowls that have already colonised the district's lunch hour. Pancita Bakery bakes Latin pastries and empanadas in Jumeirah with a perfect early score, GAF at One Central folds Emirati heritage into European café cooking, and Dalia Bagel Bar gives JVC a proper bagel at last. Seventeen in all, ranked live below.

New cafés reveal themselves fast. The coffee program either holds by week six or it doesn't, and the queue tells you which way it went. Ratings on this list lean on small review counts, so treat a 5.0 from 30 reviews as promise rather than verdict.
Weekday mornings are the honest audit of a new café. Weekend crowds forgive slow service for a pretty room, the Tuesday 8am crowd doesn't. If you want a working table, the Al Quoz spots hold space and power outlets better than the Jumeirah ones.
Saddle's Al Barsha branch and Junglebowls in DIFC lead the current ratings, with Pancita Bakery, The Mark and Ph5 holding perfect early scores on smaller counts. The ranked list above pulls live from our index.
SUBKO in Al Quoz for the roasting program, Indian microlots you won't find elsewhere in the city, plus their own chocolate. The Mark and ONA back it up. All three take the cup more seriously than the interior, which is saying something given the interiors.
Pancita in Jumeirah for Latin baking, empanadas and dulce de leche, and Ph5 in Dubai Hills for artisan breads and pastries. Dalia Bagel Bar in JVC covers the bagel gap the city complained about for years.
The Al Quoz warehouse spots, SUBKO and OF THE EARTH, handle laptops best, with space and sockets. Junglebowls turns tables fast at lunch, and the Jumeirah rooms fill with weekend brunch crowds, so pick your hours.
Flagged by our curators within the venue's opening period, typically its first months. Once a café settles into the city's rhythm we retire the flag and it moves into the regular café guides, like our Jumeirah and Dubai Hills lists.
